Asha Byers

Captain

Asha Byers

Hi, I'm Asha, the Captain and a senior at Piedmont High School. This is my third year on this team; previously, I was on an FTC team. Although I've always had an interest in engineering, I didn't truly delve into the subject until I joined this team as a sophomore. Since then, I've gained a wide range of skills, from CAD to developing an intuition about what may or may not work well. This year, I'll be collaborating with our leadership team to maintain our team's status as an up-and-coming team to watch, while also offering opportunities for students to broaden their interests and dive deeper into them, whether technical or non-technical. I'm excited to see students' enthusiasm for robotics and look forward to witnessing how being a part of this team helps them grow as individuals, just as it did for me.

Vice Captains

Vaughn Khouri

Vice Captain of Robot

My name is Vaughn and this is my third year on Highlander Robotics. As Vice Captain of Robotics, I manage everything on the technical side of 8033, including design, fabrication, prototyping, and more. I’m a Junior at Piedmont High - this is my 6th year in FIRST robotics, having joined the team after 3 years of lower FIRST programs, FLL and FTC. Alongside FRC 8033, I mentor several FTC teams, including former world finalist team 16236. I'm super excited to see what 8033 builds for Crescendo!

Jessica Liu

Vice Captain of Operations

Hi! I'm Jessica and I'm currently a senior at Piedmont High School. I joined this team in 2022 as a design and branding lead where I had the opportunity to work on various initiatives and really enjoy the operational side of robotics. In the coming season, I'm looking forward to seeing the team grow and succeed, and I'm eager to be a part of that progress.

Caetano de Figueiredo

Electrical Lead

I am a junior at CPS. I started robotics in 8th grade in FTC, and I moved to this team in freshman year. My job as the electrical lead is to oversee the robot’s wiring and make sure that it works well with our software and various mechanical subsystems. I love robotics because it is the convergence of creativity and STEM. It is important to think outside of the box for new ideas and solutions while being guided under mathematical and physical principles. This year my primary focus has been establishing sustainable training programs for our new recruits and increasing procedural robustness to allow for reliable robot performance during competition. I am excited for the electrical team to grow this season and further improve this side of robot design.

Fabrication Lead

Hi! I’m Peter Stokes. This season will be my 4th build season, and my second year as fabrication lead. I’m a senior at Piedmont High School and I joined this team in early 2021 after doing FTC in middle school; I've always loved working on a team with other like-minded engineers. When not doing fab-related work, you can find me working with the mechanical team. I have been in the pit at competitions for the past three years, co-leading the pit last year. I can’t wait to meet and work with our new members and see how we do this season!

Training Lead

Hi, I'm Athena! I'm currently a sophomore at PHS, and this is my second year on the team and sixth in FIRST overall. I love robotics because I'm able to learn so much and collaborate with so many intelligent and interesting people--the greater FRC community is also wonderful. I'm currently on the robot software sub-team and also one of the Training Leads- I work to create and maintain training infrastructure and materials for the team, as well as coordinating documentation and tracking efforts. Going forward, I hope to further strengthen our training program and build a sustainable foundation of institutional knowledge for the team.
